More and more legal assistants will be hired as law firms try to reduce their costs by using them for tasks in support of lawyers. Your work will depend on the type of law done in the office where you work and by the size of the law firm. AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC/ TECHNICIAN Inspect, maintain, and repair cars and trucks. MEDIAN PAY: $39,550 per year EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Vocational, on-the-job training, some get associate degrees JOB OUTLOOK: Average growth This occupation can be found anywhere that people operate vehicles, so that's pretty much everywhere! The skills you learn on the job will help you to grow in the occupation and potentially specialize in your area of interest; plus, being a mechanic is report- edly a low stress job and provides a good work/life balance. HAIR STYLIST OR COSMETOLOGIST Provide beauty services, including sham- pooing, cutting, coloring, and styling hair. MEDIAN PAY: $24,900 per year EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma and state-approved training school JOB OUTLOOK: Faster than average While transferring your license from state to state can be an issue, along with establishing a solid clien- tele, there is always a high demand for hair stylists in and around military installations. Build your skill set and you'll find yourself in demand, and more money to help pay the bills.
